A Scottsdale search should begin with your loved one, not a list of amenities. We learn about daily support needs, interests, finances and the people who will visit most often.
We help narrow communities and residential homes, prepare for tours and compare what life and care may look like in each setting. For families coordinating a move from another state, we help organize local questions and the next steps.
Assisted Living — Help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing and medication assistance. Compare the care assessment, staffing and fees alongside the apartment and amenities.
Memory Care — Support for people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Ask about staff training, daily routines, safety and how changing needs are managed.
Independent Living — A community lifestyle with fewer household responsibilities and opportunities for connection. Confirm what is included and how future care needs could be addressed.
Residential Assisted Living — Smaller, home-style settings. We help families examine licensing, staffing, care capabilities and whether the home fits their loved one’s routine.
Dan Harrah is a licensed Arizona Assisted Living Manager and former Executive Director with more than 14 years of senior healthcare experience, including leadership in assisted living and memory care communities.
His experience inside Arizona senior living helps families ask practical questions about staffing, care, communication and the full monthly cost. HAS supports Scottsdale and other Maricopa County families with personal guidance through comparison, selection and the transition.
ALM stands for Assisted Living Manager. Dan’s experience managing communities gives families a practical perspective on care assessments, staffing, daily operations and communication during a move.
We help families explore options near Old Town, South Scottsdale, McCormick Ranch, Gainey Ranch, the Shea corridor, North Scottsdale, Grayhawk, DC Ranch and Desert Mountain.
A familiar neighborhood can matter, but so can the drive for family visits, proximity to physicians and access to appropriate care. We discuss your priorities and consider nearby communities when they offer a better fit. A preferred neighborhood does not guarantee current availability.
1. Tell us what matters. Discuss care needs, preferred neighborhoods, budget, timeline and family involvement.
2. Build a focused shortlist. We help identify settings to consider and ask about current availability and care capabilities.
3. Tour with a purpose. Compare daily life, staffing, care, communication and complete pricing. We help families prepare questions and evaluate the answers.
4. Plan the transition. Your family chooses; the community completes assessment and admission requirements. We support the move and follow up afterward.
Scottsdale senior living costs vary by setting, apartment or room type, services and assessed care needs. An attractive starting rate may not represent the complete monthly bill.
Ask for a written breakdown of rent, care tiers, medication assistance, community fees, transportation, supplies and future increases. Compare the total against your budget and consider how the bill could change if more support is needed.
HAS helps families compare current quotes. We can also discuss a broader search area when care needs or budget make nearby options worth considering.
When a hospital or rehab stay ends, the next setting needs to match the recommended support—not just the discharge date. HAS helps Scottsdale families explore options and coordinate questions with the discharge team, as authorized.
Tell HAS the expected timeline, mobility and daily care needs, preferred location and budget. Availability and acceptance depend on the community’s assessment and capacity. The treating team directs medical care and determines discharge readiness.
Families may use private funds, long-term care insurance or other benefits, depending on the setting and individual eligibility. Arizona’s Long Term Care System (ALTCS) may help eligible people with long-term care services in approved settings.
Confirm medical and financial eligibility with AHCCCS. Ask the health plan and each community about participation, covered services, resident costs and current availability. HAS helps families identify payment questions and appropriate resources; AHCCCS determines eligibility.
You have a personal advisor who understands senior living from the inside. We help you look beyond amenities, compare care and costs and keep your loved one’s preferences at the center of the decision.
How HAS is paid
Our guidance is free to families. Harrah Advisory Services receives compensation from a senior living community only when your family chooses that community and successfully moves in. Before deciding, ask HAS whether a community compensates us and how that arrangement applies to the options you are considering.
Your family makes the decision. We stay involved through the search, transition and follow-up.
Is your guidance free to Scottsdale families?
Yes. HAS is compensated by a community only when a family chooses it and successfully moves in.
Do you help with both larger communities and smaller homes?
Yes. We help compare Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Residential Assisted Living based on individual needs.
Can we stay near our current Scottsdale neighborhood?
We discuss your preferred area and family travel needs. Care capabilities, budget and availability determine which options are appropriate to consider.
Can you help a parent moving to Scottsdale from out of state?
Yes. We help organize the local search, community comparisons and transition questions with your family.
Will you help us tour and compare prices?
Yes. We support tours and help families evaluate staffing, care, services, complete fees and overall fit.
What if care is needed after a hospital or rehab stay?
Contact HAS with the timeline and care recommendations. Community assessment and availability govern admission; the treating team determines discharge readiness.
Dementia care should fit the person’s needs and routines. Our Memory Care guide helps families prepare questions about staffing, safety and daily support. Speak with HAS about comparing Scottsdale options and planning for changing needs.
